Subject: irc setup for service hook docs and help request
Does a guide exist for setting up post service hooks to IRC? Like:
- Are there common problems with certain networks?
- Must we setup a bot ourselves?
Ideally we'd simply add the information and magically a github bot would join the defined network/channel and post the commit information but I can see how that is likely not be the case. In the very least the help should mention that we need our own bot, that is, if that's the truth. Maybe if github had a bot on the common networks... ?
I did eventually find a link to the following: * http://github.com/webs/irccat/tree/master

There are two existing services for IRC, a basic bot and CIA. You can turn either of those on in the repo's admin page. I personally would suggest the CIA service, their bots stay in the channel at all times, while ours "drive by" and post commits then exit. If you go for the IRC bot instead, there are instructions on the page where you set up the service.
irccat is certainly another option, but I never tried it out because I was happy with CIA.vc

Then I suppose it does not work, at least with my attempts on EFnet. No drive by posts were present. However, setting up other means (like email and twitter) worked fine. I'll explore CIA.
